I drive 40 miles each way everyday, fast moving highway traffic for the most part, takes about an hour - Things I saw on my commute today -

1. Very cute brunette girl driving white Ford Raptor - YES!

2. Very cute brunette girl driving Ford Edge with head cocked to side (like confused dog) speaking in to the bottom of her cell phone - NO!

3. Middle aged dude driving Saab 9-3 Viggen - YES!

4. Biker splitting lanes on a cool Yamaha sport bike with a custom luggage rack on the back with briefcase strapped on to it - I saw him coming and moved aside to give him a bit more space which he acknowledged with a wave as he passed by - YES!

5a. 2000s Range Rover with suspension completely shot, bouncing all over the place as it drove along the freeway - NO

5b. LR Discovery 3 with front suspension completely shot and fallen, looked like a funny car racer. NO NO NO NO NO - WHY do people buy these highly depreciated luxury mobiles - I see both the gangster types and also the suburbanites who are trying to look fancy and keep up with the Jones' doing this, and then don't want to pay the luxury price to do the maintenance on these cars. Not fooling anybody!

Anybody else got stories to share?

Used to do a 40 mile commute and would pass a black R8 on most mornings. Not too common of a DD in NJ.

I had to drive a rental Dodge Avenger to work this morning... any stories I have will be tainted with a great depression and a lot of swearing.

This could be a daily thread lol.

Not much exciting for me on my 26 miles to work (52 round trip) though I did see a late 90s Camaro pulled over by michigan state police...BUSTED.

Hmmm what else was there today...

Nope got nothing else. Which is weird, I normally pass a prototype in camo, a new C7 (or 8, seriously 8 passed me one day), brand new silverados, and I see Raptor's all the time!

Saw somebody at freeway speed flip the hood up and bend it over the roof of their car, Tommy-Boy style, once.

The most exciting car I saw was a clean white e30 318. Boring day.

But this should be a regular daily thread for sure.

I drive 25 miles to work in my CLS.

I saw..
1. Lot of bikes. Afterall i live in southeast asia.
2. A man driving a bus chassis. Pretty common in here.
3. A w222 S500 in silver. That thing is gorgeous.
4. An indonesian Army-spec'ed Land Rover Defender. I love that thing.
5. Bus. Lot of bus. Some of it called Mercedes jetbus and Hino legacy.
6. Nissan Silvia. I want that.
7. Toyota Crown majesta. Sort of want.

Maybe that's it.

And probably back/ass pain from those seats.

#4 is an asshole. Splitting lanes is just asking for trouble.

I agree for the most part. I'm not overly familiar with the law - I believe here in California it IS legal to split lanes, but at low speeds?

Lots of douches zoom past with 20+ mph differentials which really startle cars, and I think is just a death wish.

For the most part the guys I see doing it are going around 50-60MPH along with the rest of traffic, maybe ~2-5MPH faster and are pretty predictable about it, so I figure the best I can do is give them some space.

#2 pisses me off WAY more - it's explicitly illegal to do, and most times these people are in a completely different world and have no clue what's going on around them - this girl was all over her lane, and switching lanes with no blinkers in 60+mph tight traffic.

I only noticed there was 5 white box trucks in a row making the truck route left. That was quite a few to be in a row.

I saw joggers out this morning in the pitch black when I was reversing out of my driveway into the road at 6:20 am and it was -10F. Some people are cray.

Seriously, no wonder there are people out there who think freeway speeds are dangerous. This car wanders all over the road even being basically new, has terrible feed back in both steering and brakes, and the suspension is so poorly tuned it feels like it's walking down the road half the time rather than rolling. Then there is the random wobbly toque steer feel and crap economy tires.

No wonder people care mostly about crash rating on these cars... they inspire zero confidence that you could actually avoid a collision. I can make the ABS have a melt down just taking a late braking turn off at low to moderate speed.

I drive a whopping 7 miles each way. I only saw 2 other cars and my car barely had a chance to warm up by the time I got to work.

That was me the last 2 days, only replace Avenger with Kia (lack of) Soul.

Ouch. We should start a support group.

I had a remote starter installed on my Mazda3, and while it was first getting installed, I had a Tiguan. Naturally, I hated it. When I got the Soul because the installation was botched, I got the Soul. I never thought I'd say this, but I longed for the Tiguan after driving that piece of garbage.

Agreed. I am always giving my wife a hard time about her BRZ. Then I drove the Avenger... now I remember how terrible low price cars can be. Suddenly the BRZ isn't all that bad. For the next few years I believe the Dodge Avenger will be the car I compare all other cars to before declaring them to be bad.

My commute is really short and on a not crowded 2 lane road for the most part, so I never see interesting car related things.

The road does circle around the airport though, so if I time it right I see some planes. If I leave early enough I'll catch a UPS A300 arriving, and if I stay late sometimes I catch the afternoon FedEx 757 arrival. Occasionally I'll see a Southwest 737 or AA A320 depart, or some Learjets and Citations coming and going.

I think we should make a decree: The Dodge Avenger is the new Sebring!
